Building Healthy Relationships One Newspaper Clipping at a Time

Over the last 15 years, I have known Mary Simmons, Financial Representative, for Modern Woodman of Findlay, OH, as she was an acquaintance, family friend, of my husband’s that he knew long before we were married. Every time my husband, my children, or I make the newspaper, which happens to be often, she clips the article out of the newspaper and sends it to us with a quick pleasant compliment or acknowledgement. It is so pleasurable to know that someone recognized us in the paper and took note of our accomplishments. Oddly, hundreds of friends, family, and acquaintances may see the paper; yet, they never make mention of it until it comes up in conversation or if you directly ask, “Hey, Grandma, did you see the girls in the paper?” However, Mary never seems to miss a beat.

Of all the businessmen and women I know in my community, she is the only person who didn’t have a personal relationship with me as a child to send me such clippings. Nonetheless, I do need to recognize two women I revere from my childhood, my childhood best friend’s mom, Patsy Toll of ERA Geyer-Noakes Realty Group, Findlay, OH, and another childhood friend’s mom, Bobbi Larson, homemaker, who both consistently thought of us through the years by sending my mother the clippings over the years. For their consideration of me, I am truly grateful. Yet again, I was so moved by Mary sending us the news items as she knew my husband growing up, not me, yet, she thinks of us.

I called her today just to thank her for reaching out to us, over and over again, and I asked her more about her business. I told her I wanted to make sure I knew exactly what she does as I want to be able to refer people to her as I can guarantee if she takes care of me and I am not even a client (YET,) then I know she will take care of others who invest in her services! Kudos to the businessmen and women, like these three examples, who know the secret of building a healthy relationship — standing up to take notice of others. It is an honor and privilege to know you!
